I was commissioned by Street Space to listen to local people to better understand how they travel in, around, and through the Bradford neighbourhoods of Owlet and Frizinghall. The goal was to conduct collaborative research, alongside the Bradford-Shipley Travel Alliance to generate ideas for reducing car traffic in the area and making it easier for people to walk, wheel, and cycle shorter journeys.
We engaged over 200 local residents using a variety of creative methods, including working with a local young producer, hosting pop-ups, conducting interviews, and organizing community activities such as litter picks and a snicket #glowup.
The work played a role in challenging the authorities proposals for the widening of Canal Road, a busy main road, and replacing them with more public transport and active travel routes, to better suit the needs of both local people and the environment.
