Name: Remembering David Oluwale
Date: 2023
Location: Leeds, UK
Client: DOMA & Leeds Beckett University

I was commissioned by DOMA to design and deliver a series of workshops for Leeds Beckett University students and the wider public. These workshops explored the life and legacy of David Oluwale, a Nigerian-British citizen who lived in Leeds from 1949 until his death in 1969.

Participants, including students and community members, used collaborative research, storytelling, creative writing, and zine-making to explore his experiences. They reflected on how his life continues to shape the city today.

This project was commissioned as part of the build-up to the unveiling of a new public sculpture for the city, designed by Yinka Shonibare.
